We would like to offer two more viewpoints on the question which do not fit into the neat dichotomy which you proposed. One is that the Bible is a very good guide to personal behavior, but that the restrictions against same-sex behavior are a misinterpretation. The other is that the church does in-deed have a role as a prophetic voice in society, rather than as a corporate body be reduced to accepting anything; it should instead be championing the rights of the oppressed, preaching against the oppressors, and evangelizing the marginalized.
