The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 10 congregations and religious
organizations and 42 clergy from 14 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Mr. Satullo:

Thank you for your thoughtful editorial about the
debate over sexuality in the Episcopal church. We
would like to offer two more viewpoints on the question
which do not fit into the neat dichotomy which you
proposed. One is that the Bible is a very good guide
to personal behavior, but that the restrictions against
same-sex behavior are a misinterpretation. The other
is that the church does in-deed have a role as a
prophetic voice in society, rather than as a corporate
body be reduced to accepting anything; it should
instead be championing the rights of the oppressed,
preaching against the oppressors, and evangelizing the
marginalized.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
