The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and religious
organizations and 50 clergy from 15 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

Doug Good (letter, November 6) lumps phone calls and
boycotts by church members with a single death threat,
labels it all "violence," and then points to this
collection of "violent" acts as typical of a rather
large group, "pro-homosexual/lesbian people." Death
threats are never acceptable, but you can only blame
the person who does it, and ask those encouraging such
behavior to carefully consider their words and
actions; you cannot blame everyone who shares some
barely relevant characteristic with the person making
the threat. If the Wynan sisters had chosen to sing
about a trait of Mr. Good's that he felt was at the
core of his being, he would not be happy, and he too
might have called them or written a letter suggesting
a calm discussion of religious differences. When
people are talking about you, it's a little hard to
see it as a simple difference of opinion.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
