The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 10 congregations and religious
organizations and 39 clergy from 13 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editors:

We have been reading the many letters to the editor
regarding the upcoming Pride March with some interest,
especially since so many people have written to express
their personal theological views on the subject.
Unfortunately, while no one writer has made
ridiculously general statements about religious belief,
the overall effect (especially since Allesandra
Pollock's pro-March letter) has been to imply that the
debate over the rights of sexual minorities is a debate
between the religious and the areligious.

While it is true that those opposed to the march mostly
claim religious inspiration for their views, and many
who support the march do not consider themselves
religious (and who can blame them, given the treatment
they are subjected to in many denominations) there are
also many gay-rights supporters who are people of
faith, including many inspired by their religious
beliefs to take up this cause.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
