The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 3 congregations, 6 religious
organizations and 38 clergy from 13 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editor:

Mary Leonard's piece about religion and politics
provided an interesting viewpoint, but her choice of
words in saying that "one-third of the House voted
against the Ten Commandments," and that the same one-
third voted "for strict separation of Church and State
and against the biblical word of God," was extremely
unfortunate. There are many Jews and Christians who
have dedicated their lives to spreading the word of God
and who believe in strict church-state separation.
Later in the article Ms. Leonard even quoted
conservative Christians who oppose state-sanctioned
religion, but she called their opposition a
"remarkable" act of defiance against the "orthodoxy" of
the Religious Right, and not opposition to God.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
