The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 12 congregations and religious
organizations and 50 clergy from 15 faiths and denominations. If you are in
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths
are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in
other areas.

Dear Editor:

Thank you for the interesting and informative November
9 article about the Rev. J. Philip Wogaman. However,
we have a quibble with the phrase, "Make no mistake,
Wogaman is one of the more liberal church leaders on
the issue [of homosexuality]." This sounds as though
Wogaman's views on sexual orientation are unique.
Wogaman is still in the minority, but a rapidly growing
minority. He is one of 1,385 United Methodist clergy
who signed a petition supporting same-gender unions,
and Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, United Church of
Christ, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Unitarian-Universalist,
Disciples of Christ and Mennonite congregations are
joining the Welcoming movement at a steady pace.

Sincerely,
Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom
