Subject: IWG letter to "The State" Date: Mon, 3 Jun 1996 23:10:35 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Purdom The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 2 congregations, 4 religious organizations and 24 clergy from 10 faiths and denominations. If you are in the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in other areas. Many Chris-tians, unlike Ralph Reed or any of the other people you interviewed, support the ordination of sexual minorities and the legalization of civil marriage for same-sex couples. Reed's call for civility toward gays and lesbians does not jibe with his request that the mis-named "Defense of Marriage Act" reach the President's desk by Labor Day; with the Christian Coalition's opposition to the Supreme Court overturning Colorado's Amendment 2; or with his organization's repeated attempts to take over school boards and institute anti-gay policies which endanger gay teens and result in censorship in the classroom. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
