Dear Mr. Thompson:

Thank you for your excellent and moving column
concerning the Defense of Marriage Act. We believe
that the fight for marriage equality must be fought,
and is winnable.  We don't believe that anybody else
is just like us;  every individual is different. But
that doesn't imply that one sexual orientation or race
is morally superior to another, or that race and
sexual orientation have anything to do with morality
at all, and it certainly doesn't justify denying
anyone the right to marry.  

You're right that the vote on DOMA wasn't suprising,
but it's also true that popular support for marriage
legalization is growing rapidly as more people come to
understand the issues.  You have less support than you
should, but you also have more than you think.
