Only the most right-wing power-hungry religious organizations in this country are opposed to strict separation of church and state, because by discouraging the entanglement of government and religion we have avoided a tyrrany of the religious majority and encouraged religious diversity. The United States, with thousands of religious groups, has done a much better job of avoiding the religious strife seen in Northern Ireland, India, and Bosnia, where one obvious religious majority and one or two religious minorities have torn the countries apart in a battle for supremacy. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
