Subject: More Inquirer coverage of CC Date: Fri, 12 Jan 1996 15:22:32 -0500 (EST) From: Chris Purdom The Inquirer has about a third of a page in the front section devoted to the fact that the Christian Coalition isn't very busy right now, complete with a picture or Ralph Reed managing to look both evil and bored at the same time. Basically Reed says that nothing will happen to resolve the budget before the 96 elections and he's looking to get a new President and a new cabinet in place. He mentions some possibilities for cabinet posts, including Gary Bauer, and discusses how many voter guides he's going to get into the churches. Some ideas for letters to the editor (EditPage@aol.com) Given recent evidence that the Christian Coalition has been seriously inflating its numbers, and is not actually much bigger than say, People for the American Way, are we going to be seeing articles on what similar sized groups with a more liberal bent are saying on slow news days? By putting up Ralph Reed's picture, you are perpetrating the fiction that he, and not Pat Robertson, runs the Christian Coalition. Pat Robertson has been saying all kinds of bizzare stuff this week on the 700 Club as part of his fund-raising effort; why not report on that? Funny you should mention those voter guides. Aren't they the ones that list bills with titles like "the promoting homosexuality to schoolchildren act?" Congratulations to Foglietta and Fattah for their 0 ratings! How does the Christian Coalition continue to keep its tax-exempt status, when Ralph Reed says that they're actively trying to get a Republican president elected? Thank you for showing just how scary the Christian Coalition is, and just how important the Presidential election is. That list of cabinet members offered by Ralph Reed was pretty frightening. Remember, that's EditPage@aol.com, where they editorialize against the Religious Right, and report their every word as Gospel. --
