Subject: IWG Lancaster New Era letter Date: Fri, 19 Jul 1996 22:34:00 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Purdom The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 2 congregations, 5 religious organizations and 35 clergy from 12 faiths and denominations. If you are in the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in other areas. We are all part of the human family, the children of God. Loving families treat all their members with equal respect, and encourage the members to follow their own calls and to lead lives of love and commitment. The so-called Defense of Marriage Act and similar legislative attempts at the state level are inherently anti-family. Many of us who oppose such legislation are in the sexual majority, but unlike Pam Shellenberger we do not believe that this issue is difficult or uncomfortable. Nor do we believe that segregation is the correct reaction to the diversity of God's creation. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
