October 15, 1996 Dr. Marilyn Baker Acting Superintendent Elizabethtown Area High School 600 E. High St. Elizabethtown, PA 17022 Dear Dr. Baker: We were saddened by the condemnation of minority students by the Elizabethtown School Board. Non- heterosexual children have a tough enough time in life without the School Board denying them access to basic knowledge. With this so-called pro-family action the Board has clearly stated that some children are not welcome in the schools or in their families. Please reconsider this policy, especially since a large number of students have clearly demonstrated that they do not feel it is beneficial to them, or to their education. We hope that in the future the Elizabethtown School Board will make a greater effort to respect the diversity of the students in its care and prepare them for life in a diverse society. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
