organizations and 35 clergy from 12 faiths and denominations. If you are in 
the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious 
organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths

Dear Editors:

Your report that Robert Bork is calling for
Congress to be able to overrule the Supreme Court by a
simple majority vote is further evidence that the goal
of the Religious Right is to throw out constitutional
protection for minority opinion.  Think about how it
might work: a conservative fundamentalist Christian
majority is elected to Congress and promptly rules
that only fundamentalist Christians can hold federal
jobs, or the overwhelmingly white majority overturns
Brown v. Board of Education.  There would be no
defense from the Supreme Court .  Sorry.  

Constitutional protections apply to everybody,
and they must be preserved.  The justices on the
Supreme Court are not pandering to voters, or what
they think voters want, as are the reelection-minded
members of Congress; they are concerned with
interpreting and being faithful to the Constitution of
the United States of America.  You may not like who
the Supreme Court is defending today, but tomorrow it
could be you.
