Subject: IWG Chicago Tribune Letter Date: Thu, 2 May 1996 22:32:54 -0400 (EDT) From: Chris Purdom The following went out on IWG letterhead listing 2 congregations, 4 religious organizations and 23 clergy from 9 faiths and denominations. If you are in the general Philadelphia area and represent a congregation or religious organization or are clergy, let us know if you want to be added - all faiths are welcome. We will also be happy to help start similar organizations in other areas. Michigan Avenue Chicago, IL 60611 Dear Editors: We were appalled by your editorial suggesting that relationships between same-sex couples were not worthy of the name "marriage." You have demonstrated a lack of faith in the institution of marriage, heterosexist bigotry against same-sex couples who want to wed, and religious bigotry against the congregations from many faiths and backgrounds who have decided that there is nothing in their faiths' definitions of marriage to limit the genders of the couple involved. "Tolerance without endorsement" may be politically popular, but it is legally and morally wrong. Sincerely, Barbara Purdom Christopher Purdom Interfaith Working Group Coordinators
