Box 1026 Norfolk, VA 23501 phone contact: Dawn Rankin-Phelps (804) 543-2460 March 27, 1995 Mr. Pat Robertson Christian Broadcast Network 977 Centerville Turnpike Virginia Beach, VA 23456 Dear Mr. Robertson, On the evening of March 8, 1995 you met with the Rev. Mel White in the Virginia Beach City Jail. At that time, Mel presented you with a letter containing some requests you promised to consider. One of those requests was "to meet with a delegation from PFLAG to hear the human side of this tragic story." We are that delegation of parents, family and friends of lesbians and gays together with some concerned area religious leaders. We anxiously await your response to that request. We want you to hear about the fear of knowing that our loved ones are often the target of violence, the anquish we feel when they are ridiculed and discriminated against. We know you don't preach hate or condone violence. Yet the violence goes on. Every day we hear of hate crimes and gay bashings. We can show you the evidence. We saw that you condemned violence against gays and lesbians this week on The 700 Club. Thank you. You have a vast communications network and command a huge audience. Words from you can do much towards ending the violence our loved ones face. Won't you meet with us to explore what more can be done to stop this madness? We are available to meet at your convenience, and we expect to hear from you at the above contact number on or before Monday, April 10 to set up an appointment. Sincerely, Alicia C. Herr Loen M.
