FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL SAYS DR. FOSTER LOOKS LIKE "ELDERS-LITE" WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 1995 -- Family Research Council President Gary Bauer said today that the musical chairs in the U.S. Surgeon General's office will not change opposition to the same old song in the Clinton Administration's social policies. Bauer noted that President Clinton is said to be ready to announce Dr. Henry W. Foster, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, as his new surgeon general. "Dr. Foster appears to be Elders-Lite. He may not have her methods, but he has supported the same failed policies," Bauer said. According to Family Research Council, Dr. Foster has long been a supporter of contraceptive-based sex education and distribution programs, and of school based clinics. His abortion activism includes serving as a board member of Planned Parenthood and working on a Planned Parenthood committee dedicated solely to furthering abortion. (Note: a fact sheet is available.) "Clearly, Dr. Foster has shown his support for the failed sexual politics of the last 30 years," Bauer said. "But the Clinton Administration is not the only branch of government to have a say on this possible nomination. We will count on the new U.S. Congress that was elected with the votes of millions of pro-family Americans not to repeat the mistake that was made when Dr. Joycelyn Elders was inflicted on our children. FRC will call on the new Congress to fight this possible nomination. "President Clinton has shown himself as the most pro-condom, pro-abortion president in U.S. history. From executive orders during his first days in office, to his proposed big-government takeover of health care, Bill Clinton has supported taxpayer funding for ultra-liberal policies on life issues. Family Research Council will continue to fight the failed social policies that have marked the Clinton Administration no matter who its spokesman is."
