`Americans don't want an Abortionist Activist General,' Bauer says


Foster, 1978:  `I have done a lot of amniocentesis and 
therapeutic abortions, probably near 700.'


WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 1995 -- Family Research Council President Gary Bauer 
called again on Monday for the President to withdraw his nomination of Dr. 
Henry Foster as the nation's next surgeon general -- after newly discovered 
information linked him to many more than the "fewer than a dozen" abortions he 
admitted performing as a "private practicing" physician, according to a 
statement he released last week.

"First Dr. Foster told Senator Kassebaum he had done one abortion, then he 
told the American people he had done `possibly' 12 abortions ... Today the 
number is 700," Bauer said.  "If Dr. Foster isn't sure about his own medical 
record as an abortionist, how can pro-family Americans be comfortable with his 
appointment to the nation's highest medical position?"

Bauer was referring to a transcript from the Department of Health, Education 
and Welfare office of the Secretary, Ethics Advisory Board Meeting on Friday, 
Nov. 10, 1978, in Seattle, Washington.  (Quotes from Pages 180.)

"Once again, pro-family Americans are reminded of the Clinton Administration's 
total commitment to the failed social policies of the last 30 years," Bauer 
said.
