Date: Mon, 6 Nov 1995 16:02:26 -0500 From: GrndZeroCO@AOL.COM Subject: TEBEDO STEPS DOWN KEVIN TEBEDO REACHES AGREEMENT WITH CFV BOARD TO PART COMPANY COLIN COOK INCIDENT BELIEVED BE THE STRAW THAT BROKE CAMEL'S BACK Colorado Springs CO 11/06/95) Will Perkins today announced that Kevin Tebedo, a founder and Executive Director of Colorado for Family Values (CFV), has been removed by mutual consent from affiliation with that group. Perkins sung effusely Tebedo's praises and endorsed his actions and philosophies as being like his own in announcing the severence, which is immediate and included a severence package. Ostensibly, the reason for the separation was that Kevin's issues went beyond the norrower focus of CFV and he was given the choice of confining his activity to that focus or looking for other venues. "In all probability," said Frank Whitworth, Executive Director of Ground Zero Colorado Springs, the gay and lesbian advocacy organization, "Kevin's public face of radicalism, endorsed by the CFV board and Will Perkins, was the problem. They don't seem to disagree with it--they just are better PR people and don't support what they are really all about being so publicly known." In fact, in the last year, CFV has hit on harder times. Starting with Tebedo's charge into quiet and diverse Manitou Springs, charging that their Rainbow Plan for Parks and Streets was homosexuallly inspried (causing CFV and tEbedo to be held up to ridicule), Tebedo seems to have taken a number of significant and uncomfortable steps. He has become more and more visible in attending meetings of the Patriot and Militia movement and in consorting with known leaders of this movement, including State Senator Charles Duke. Recently he participated in a "Common Law" Trial of the US Government. Last year, he asked a gay and lesbian gathering "Where will you (homosexuals) go when we (Radical Right) Win." The Community Standards Resolution has died a hard death and is seen as a major blow to CFV and to Tebedo. Tebedo's mother, a Colorado state senator, offended the Black Communty by indicating that historical and ingrained black promiscuousness was a prime factor in their problems. Tebedo's sister, Linda, drives around Colorado Springs without proper license plates, sporting Sovereign tags. Kevin insisted on endorsing and defending Colin Cook, whom CFV has been introducing around the state, when Cook was revealed by the Denver Post as continuing sexual abuse of his clients. All too much for Will Perkins and gang, it would seem. In their statement, they continued to quote the old Paul Cameron lies and myths, denounced by the APA, ASA and the AMA, in regard homosexuality and his statistics about gay mortality, saying gay lifestyle casues gay males to doe at the average age of 42. a disproved and incorrectly developed statistics. Education took the forefront of the CFV press conference, where it was made clear that the new front for the assault on gays and lesbians was to be in public education. Repeating the lies and disinformation of the goals of gays and lesbians and denouncing the recently issued Natinal Education Association action plan as "horrendous" Perkins made it clear that this is where the battle would be. TEBEDO, I HIS FINAL STATEMENT, ALSO GAVE CLEAR INDICATION THAT HE WOULD BE MOVING FURTHER RIGHT WHEN HE SAID THAT I WILL CONTINUE TO WORK FOR MY SOVEREIGN STATE OF COLORADO AND ITS PEOPLE.
