Some letters have come with donations, including one donation of $10,000. * A CNN reporter asked the Western Region director why the policy (that discriminates against gays) is in effect. His response (paraphrased): "The Boy Scouts is not for everyone. The Boy Scouts have a role of emphasizing and teaching traditional family values. Homosexuals are not acceptable role models to teach that." * United Way spokesman, an older black woman: "My sons were not Boy Scouts, because at that time the Boy Scouts did not accept blacks into their troops....discrimination of all forms is wrong and that is what the United Way is standing for."
