PROJECT OPEN MIND UPDATE
November 14, 1995

FOR EXTERNAL USE:

The pressure from the Christian Broadcasting Network has continued.  Our
position is that we are condemning hate speech and the speakers in the ads
are representative of that hate speech.  As leaders, they are responsible for
the language they choose.  Additional media buys have been canceled or put on
hold as follows:

Tulsa - KJRH - the NBC affiliate - ran the "bashing" ad for 5 days.  The ad
was pulled today due to continuing pressure from CBN and receipt of a second
and more harshly worded letter.  The cable buy on TCI Cable has been put on
hold due to the pressure from CBN.

Media coverage on television, radio and press continues.  PFLAG spokespersons
around the country have been appearing on local and national radio programs.
 Mitzi Henderson, PFLAG President, has also been interviewed by national
press and the BBC.  Negotiations are underway for a segment on a national
television news magazine program.  A segment for the CBS Evening News has
been filmed with interviews with Sandra Gillis, Executive Director and Nancy
Rodriquez from Atlanta.  As of today, the network plans to air the segment on
tomorrow night's evening news.  There is no guarantee of this airing.  Sandra
Gillis appeared on a taping with the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia.  Jean
Genasci, PFLAG Vice President and Jeffrey Garrett, Campaign Manager, Project
Open Mind, were on NewsTalk, a national TV cable program.

Please call the following stations to condemn hate speech and demand that the
stations fulfill their broadcast responsibility to their communities and not
cave in to the pressure to censure from the Christian Broadcasting Network:
