The campaign, called GiveForChange, will run through the end of 1999. Working Assets has set aside $1 million in matching funds. The way the program works is simple: Supporters of progressive causes who wish to donate (and who wish to see their donations matched dollar-for-dollar by Working Assets) may visit www.GiveForChange.com. There they will find more than 250 progressive groups in 11 areas to choose from. By clicking on "Gay and Lesbian Rights" and then clicking on "National Gay and Lesbian Task Force," donors may choose to give to NGLTF (and may visit NGLTF's web site while they're there). For every $25 per month donated by a supporter, Working Assets will match the amount, until the $1 million the long distance carrier has pledged is exhausted. "Working Assets has developed an innovative way for NGLTF supporters to double their giving at half the cost," said NGLTF Executive Director Kerry Lobel. "This will help the Task Force carry its campaign for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered equality to local communities and states all across the country. And it will help other progressive non-profit groups build a better, cleaner, safer, more equitable world." The more than 250 non-profit groups who will benefit from Working Assets' GiveForChange campaign are spread out throughout the progressive world. They work on issues including GLBT equality and civil rights, the environment, animal welfare, freedom of expression, peace, international relief and development, children and families, economic justice and health care. ____________________________________________________________________ Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force works to eliminate prejudice, violence and injustice against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people at the local, state and national level. As part of a broader social justice movement for freedom, justice and equality, NGLTF is creating a world that respects and celebrates the diversity of human expression and identity where all people may fully participate in society. _________________________________________________________________ The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force presents the Creating Change conference - the nation's premier conference for activists and organizers in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender movement.
