The deadline has been extended to May 25, 1998. The guidelines are posted below and are also available at: http://www.ngltf.org/yli .......................................................... The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is holding its third national training for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) activists and organizers. The NGLTF Youth Leadership Institute will bring together 25 queer young people from across the country to learn grassroots organizing and leadership skills. We are seeking LGBT young people 16 to 22 years of age who have some activism and organizing experience. Graduates of the 1998 Youth Leadership Institute will be expected to take on an organizing project within their state in conjunction with the Federation of Statewide LGBT Political Organizations and the organized political actions in the states in 1999. Because the training is designed to help youth develop concrete skills that can be put to use immediately, you must be ready and committed to take a leadership role in organizing for the rights and empowerment of LGBT youth. Successful candidates will have: Experience organizing on GLBT political issues in your community - this includes those who have started or led a support group, organized a rally, worked to help other young people, and are ready to work hard to create change. Desire and ability to continue in a volunteer leadership role in your state and community after attending the NGLTF Youth Leadership Institute. Commitment to working in a multi-cultural environment for racial, economic, sexual, and gender diversity. All participants must be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered youth aged 16 to 22. We strongly encourage young people of color, young women, young people with HIV, young people with disabilities, bisexual youth, transgendered young people, and youth in rural areas to apply. ********************************************************* To apply to the NGLTF Youth Leadership Institute, complete an application and return it to NGLTF by Monday May 25, 1998. Applications are available at http://www.ngltf.org/yli. Be sure to attach your personal statement and three references. Every participant is required to raise a portion of their costs to attend the Youth Leadership Institute. The $2,000 cost covers meals, lodging, travel, and training. NGLTF staff will assist you in developing a plan to raise funds in your community, but it is your responsibility to raise a portion of the funds yourself. NGLTF will pay the rest.
