Will you be one of them? On Tuesday, November 3 - go to the polls! Remind your friends and and family to vote! All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, 34 U.S. Senate seats, 36 governor's offices and state legislature elections in all but four states are at stake next week. Many of these races are tightly contested, and many present important opportunities for GLBT and allied voters. Alaska and Hawaii voters will decide whether to amend their constitutions to forbid same sex marriage. Voters in Fayetteville, Arkansas, face a resolution barring discrimination by the city, and approval of similar ordinances are on the ballot in Fort Collins, Colorado -- some 50 miles from the scene of Matthew Shepard's tragic and brutal murder. And in the cities of South Portland and Ogunquit, Maine residents will vote on ballot initiatives that would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in employment, housing, and public accommodations. Get information about candidates for national offices, as well as for state ballot initiatives, on the website of Project Vote Smart: http://www.vote-smart.org. _____________________________________________________________________ Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force works to eliminate prejudice, violence and injustice against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people at the local, state and national level.
