As RRP Fund contributors know, The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) is doing a fund-raising campaign for its Fight The Right Project. Here's some info about the Project, from a recent letter from Executive Directrix Peri Jude Radecic... ------------------------------------------------ THE WAY WE WORK The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force provides activists with the resources and support to be effective during perhaps the most crucial time in gay and lesbian history. MICHIGAN -- A CASE STUDY Early last Spring, the Task Force visited Michigan, meeting with area leaders and learning of the community's challenges. In addition to the ongoing discrimination against gay men and lesbians, the Right Wing was threatening a Colorado-style anti-gay ballot measure. Local activists needed the training, resources and support to win a bitter campaign. WHAT DID WE DO? - The Task Force's Mid-West Fight the Right Regional Training provided 24 Michigan activists with practical strategies from other campaigns across the nation. - NGLTF offered media trainig, providing 35 activists with effective press and public relations strategies. - Development Director Mickey MacIntyre trained activists in another vital part of organizing -- fundraising. He shared strategies to ensure that they have the funds to fight the wealthy Right Wing. ON-GOING SUPPORT Our work did not end with just one visit. As part of our Workplace Campaign, the Task Force is negotiating with General Motors, the world's largest corporation, to pressure for domestic partner benefits and comprehensive family leave for all their employees. GM is the single largest employer in Michigan. We also help activists turn what would take three weeks into a day's work with our extensive publications, statistics, and experienced staff. Our resources save time, money, and energy. Michigan is obviously not the only state we serve. In state after state, the Task Force holds back the tide of hatred, bigotry and intolerance. We are unique in the resources we provide, the expertise we have, and the number of issues on which we work. In the end, with your support, we will win! ------------------------------------------------ You can contribute to NGLTF Fight the Right (all but $35 is tax- deductible) at: NGLTF Policy Institute 1734 14th Street NW Washington DC 20009 202/332-0207 I'm sure Linda Yanney, NGLTF's Public Policy Assistant, won't mind my giving out her e-mail address -- ljyngltf@aol.com -- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: rod williams : pacific bell : san francisco : rjwill6@pacbell.com :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
