NATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN TASK FORCE PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Peri Jude Radecic Shannon Thomas Kennedy, (202) 332-6483 Ron.DeVrou@f70.n109.z1.fidonet.org JUNE IS NATIONAL LOBBY DAYS MONTH Washington, D.C., April 30, 1992...The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in June will launch its sixth annual National Lobby Days for lesbian and gay civil rights. Held during the entire month, National Lobby Days are designed to encourage, empower and coordinate a grassroots lobbying front aimed at the U.S. Congress. During National Lobby Days, activists and organizations lobby their federal legislators by hosting letter-writing parties and arranging district-based office visits with members of Congress. Individuals send post cards, visit their legislators and write letters on issues of concern to the lesbian and gay community. "NGLTF's goal is to provide up-to-date Congressional information to activists around the country which can then be used to advance our federal gay rights agenda," said NGLTF Deputy Director of Public Policy Peri Jude Radecic. NGLTF has created "The Lobby Days Report" newspaper as a tool for activists in their lobbying work around the country. "The Report" contains information about pending legislation, a presentation of the voting records of members of Congress, as well as facts about the issues pending before Congress. In addition, NGLTF has added a special supplement to the newspaper designed to provide information and build momentum for the April 1993 March on Washington for Gay, Lesbian, Bi Equal Rights and Liberation. The supplement focuses on preparations being made for two full days of Capitol Hill lobbying near the time of the March on Washington. This information will be helpful for any activist planning to lobby their members of Congress during their trip to Washington for the March. The supplement will also provide information about the national demands of the March on Washington as well as other scheduled events and related activities. NGLTF initiated the annual National Lobby Days program following the historic 1987 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. NGLTF helped organize more than 800 activists for two days of Congressional lobbying proceeding the March.
