National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact Mickey MacIntyre or Robert Bray, (202) 332-6483 Ron.DeVrou@f70.n109.z1.fidonet.org KENNETH HILL JOINS NGLTF DEVELOPMENT STAFF Washington, D.C., May 7, 1992...Kenneth Hill became the newest addition to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute development staff when he came on board last month as Director of Special Projects. Hill brings with him proven expertise in public relations and event management. Formerly an account executive with a Washington-based public affairs firm, Hill designed and produced conferences and special events. He also managed diverse accounts involving international relations, celebrity handling, protocol, media promotion and publicity. As Director of Special Projects, Hill will design and produce more than two-dozen annual fundraising events that NGLTF hosts nationwide. In addition, he will oversee NGLTF's new-member activities and will coordinate its participation in gay and lesbian Pride festivities around the country. Special events and the membership campaign account for 22 percent of NGLTF's 1992 budget of $1.3 million. Combined, they are the second largest income source for the organization after membership renewals. Hill developed a commitment to the gay and lesbian movement as a founding member and president of the Gay and Lesbian Student Union at the University of Nevada-Reno. When he and a group of other students formed the organization and applied for university funding in 1985, a conservative faction of the student senate created an anti-gay rights controversy that lasted for weeks and spilled over into the community at large and city newspaper editorials. Despite those difficulties, the student group soon was 100 members strong -- and university-funded. "Working full-time in the gay and lesbian movement has long been a dream of mine," said Hill. "I embrace the opportunity to use whatever talents I have to help promote the work of NGLTF and the rights of gay people everywhere." Hill resides in northwest Washington, D.C., with his spouse, Scott Foster, and a fat, white cat named Grace. ### [Editor's note: photos of Kenneth Hill are available from NGLTF.
