We work for the full equality of lesbians through impact litigation, community and judicial education, and resource publications. LEGAL DIRECTOR: Job Description: The Legal Director oversees NCLR's litigation, community and judicial education, and production of resource publications; coordinates participation in and drafting of Amicus briefs; supervises and trains law clerks, and serves as a spokesperson for the organization to the media and public. The position is based in San Francisco and requires 30 to 60 days of travel per year. Currently, the Legal Director serves as the Director of NCLR's Lesbians of Color Project which is also staffed by a full-time program coordinator. An important part of NCLR's mission is serving lesbian of color communities and training LOC lawyers. Job Requirements: Member in good standing of a state bar; minimum of 5 years of legal experience (which may include law school teaching experience), excellent writing skills, experience working in a multicultural setting and supervising a diverse staff. Familiarity with civil rights and women's rights issues as well as lesbian/gay legal and political issues. Ability to work well with the legal and judicial community as well as with a variety of clients and community groups. Experience working as part of a management team. NEW POSITION OPENING: DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE Job Description: Responsible for donor maintenance and record-keeping on donor database. Generates analytical reports, mailing lists, and labels and envelopes as needed for donor solicitations. Works closely with Development Director to initiate and maintain communication with donors through solicitations, reports, and thank you letters. Coordinates in-house mailings. Generates inquiries, solicitations, and thank you letters for in-kind donations. Responsible for state applications, compliance requirements, and recordkeeping for Combined Federal Campaign, Independent Charities of America and United Way donations. Assists Development Director in research and writing of grant proposals and in filing progress reports for grants and United Way funds. Assists Development Director in coordinating special events, fundrasing projects, and campaigns, Acts as liaison to community organized events and activities for NCLR. Job Requirements: Previous development experience. Experience managing a donor database and excellent word-processing skills with experience in WordPerfect 5.1. Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency to meet competing deadlines. Excellent writing and communication skills.
