Thank you for your interest in the Immigration Equality: The Lesbian and Gay Immigration Rights Task Force/LA. In this month's letter in addition to the minutes of last month's meeting you will notice a colorful brochure explaining what Immigration Equality is all about. These are the flyers we will be handing out at events that we attend. We have English and Spanish versions. One of our plans is to produce more flyers, with specific information on how to deal with immigration problems. We have a lot of suggestions for the future activities of the group. Which ones actually get done depend on who shows up ready to work at gettng them done. The decision of the future activities of Immigration Equality will be going on at next week's meeting at 7pm Tuesday July 11. As usual, the first 30 minutes of the meeting will be a social gathering where we can chat and share stories about immigration haggles. At 7:30pm the business part of the meeting will begin. The minutes of last month's meeting are on the other side of this letter. Take a moment to read them and then make the decision to attend the next meeting on Tuesday August 8. The attendees made a lot of great suggestions for things that Immigration Equality can start doing. These are just suggestions. We are finally entering the activity stage! Now we just need eager particpants and volunteers! Your attendance can influence what activities get accomplished first. Our next meeting will be held Thursday, August 8, 7pm at The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center. The Center is located at 1625 North Schrader Boulevard in Hollywood, two blocks west of Cahuenga Boulevard and one-half block south of Holywood Boulevard. Parking is free in the back lot. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions about the upcoming meeting please contact the group at our new voicemail number (213-526-2915). Very truly yours, Ron Buckmire & Dean Elzinga Secretary MINUTES_of_the_Thursday_July_11_Meeting_of_Immigration_Equality________________* *__________ (by Ron Buckmire) Business part of the meeting began at 7:31pm. 6 people attended. A number of suggestions were made, including o attend pride events, such as San Diego Pride, Orange County Pride, and the Sunset Junction Street Fair o prepare radio interview to air on KPFK o assemble a list of queer-friendly immigration attorneys based in the LA-ar ea o keep a schedule of free immigration consultations at the Center o prepare flyers listing basic questions and answers on immigration o distribute petitions endorsing the principle of immigration equality o organise another immigration seminar o social event in conjunction with International Human Rights Day (Dec) As the meeting broke up we agreed to continue trying to liaison with the Freedom To Marry coalition to ensure that immigration is included in the discussion of the impact of the Hawaii marriage case. Andie will try to design a logo for the group. Andie and Lionel recorded the intro on the voicemail number 213-526-2915 so that it would be in Spanish and English, as well as having male and female voices. Meeting ended at 8:36pm.
