Lesbian and Gay Immigration Rights Task Force/LA c/o L.A Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center/Legal Services Department 1625 North Schrader Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028-9998 (vox) 213-993-7674 (fax) 213-993-7699 (email) LGIRTF@abacus.oxy.edu June 2, 1995 TO: LGIRTF Members FROM: Ron Buckmire & Dean Elzinga Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Lesbian and Gay Immigration Rights Task Forc *e. The minutes of the May 9 meeting are enclosed. One of the main points of discussion during the meeting was to come up with a NAME for the group. Everyone is encouraged to come to the next meeting to help determine what the name of the group will be You can also always phone or email the group and suggest names. A subcommittee has proposed the following MISSION STATEMENT/GOALS for our group: o To advocate equal marriage and immigration rights for lesbian and gay people. o To build an immigration [legal] resource and [social] support network for the lesbian and gay community. o To empower lesbian and gay people with knowledge of immigration rights. At the meeting next week at 7pm, Thursday we will be voting on a name and these goals for the group. The #rst 30 minutes of the meeting will be a social gathering wh ere we can chat and share stories about immigration haggles. We are also planning to have some informal social events in June. At 7:30pm the business part of the meeting will begin. A great big Thank You! to two members of the group who could not attend last month's meeting but who still sent in checks in order to support the activities of the club (including these mailings). If each person who is on this mailing list could donate between $1 and $10 to the group we would have enough money to have our own voice mailbox! I'm sure that after we have a name and goals we will have an ever increasing need for funds. At the very least our mailing list will get longer. Our next meeting will be held Thursday, June 8, 7pm at The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center. The Center is located at 1625 North Schrader Boulevard in Hollywood, two blocks west of Cahuenga Boulevard and one-half block south of Holywood Boulevard. Parking is free in the back lot. Hope to see you there! At the June 8 meeting next week we will_be voting on a name and adopting the mission statement and goals for our group so that we can start concentrating on outreach and publicity. If you have any questions about the upcoming meeting please contact the Co-coordinators Mylo (213.933.9294) and Elisabeth (213.465.6301).
