(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Longtime District resident Bob Kabel has won the endorsement of D.C. Councilmember David Catania (R-At Large) in the race for Republican National Committeeman in the May 2 GOP primary. In a letter to District Republicans, Councilmember Catania calls Kabel the "best candidate" to represent the District to the RNC and urges support for his campaign. In his letter to District voters, Councilmember Catania wrote "To me, the commitment, service and integrity Bob brought to my race reinforces the fact that he is the best candidate to represent the District of Columbia on the Republican National Committee. As Chairman of Catania's successful re-election campaign in 1998, Bob Kabel put more than twenty years of experience and knowledge about D.C. and national politics to work in helping to score one of the most important victories in DC Republican Party history. "David Catania was just the beginning of the Republican revolution in Washington, D.C.," said Al Mitchler, former Finance Director of the Republican National Committee and Chairman of Kabel 2000. "Now we need to continue that revolution by electing Bob Kabel as our Republican National Committeeman. He will be the most seasoned, effective and representative voice on the RNC for the District." "I have known Bob Kabel for years, and have admired his work for the Republican Party both nationally and locally," said Julie Finley, chairman of the D.C. Republican Committee. Finley, who has made no endorsement in the National Committeeman race and is a candidate for Republican National Committeewoman, added "He has been tireless in his efforts and commitment to ensure the election of Republicans. If he wins on May 2nd, I know he would make an excellent National Committeeman." In addition to chairing Catania's 1998 election, Kabel has been a strong supporter of the local Republican Party, both as an At-Large Member of the D.C. Republican Committee and founding member of the DCRC Advisory Council. He has been involved in several local Republican candidates, including Carol Schwartz in her races for Mayor and At-Large Councilmember; Harry Singleton for his race for D.C. Delegate; and the D.C. Council campaigns of Roger Moffatt (Ward 2/1996) and Ian Alexander (Ward 5/1998), both of whom have endorsed Kabel. Kabel also served on staff with Senator Paul Fannin (R-AZ) and Senator Richard G. Lugar (R-IN), and served in the White House as Special Assistant for Senate Affairs under President Ronald Reagan. Later, President Reagan nominated and the U.S. Senate confirmed Bob Kabel to the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. He was national chairman of Log Cabin Republicans from 1994 to 1999, and currently serves as chairman of the Liberty Education Fund. The endorsement of Bob Kabel by Councilmember Catania adds to a widening list of prominent Republican supporters across the city, including leaders of the local Bush, McCain and Forbes presidential campaigns; Roger Moffatt, Treasurer of the D.C. Republican Committee; the Capital Area Log Cabin Republicans; and hundreds of grass-roots neighborhood and community leaders in all eight Wards. In contrast, none of Kabel's opponents have won endorsements from local Republican elected officials, D.C. Republican Party officers or local Republican organizations.
