Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Winnie Stachelberg, Political Director for The Human
Right Campaign, Robert Rosenthal of Broward County People with AIDS
Coalition and Florida~s Log Cabin Republicans issued statements of
appreciation to Congressman E. Clay Shaw for his cosponsorship of the Ryan
White CARE Act of 2000. 

"For nearly a decade, the CARE Act has allowed HIV positive people to live
longer, healthier lives and represents the largest and most critical
discretionary federal investment in treating individuals with HIV and AIDS.
It is imperative that Congress reauthorize these programs for those
persons and families impacted by HIV and AIDS," noted Stachelberg in her
acknowledgment of  Rep. Shaw~s urgently needed support.

Robert Rosenthal, Chair of the Broward County PWA Coalition Board of
Directors believes that Rep. Shaw~s support strengthens the importance of
a bipartisan approach which addresses the overall need of people living
with HIV/AIDS.  Rosenthal noted, "We appreciate the Congressman~s
cosponsorship and furthermore extended our thanks in the PWA Coalition~s
newsline."

"Florida Log Cabin Republicans and their DC AIDS action task force are
equally pleased to have the Congressman join the ranks of other
Republicans who have avidly supported this Care Act  in a GOP controlled
House and Senate," noted Andy Eddy, the club~s Director for Community
Relations and Outreach. 
 
Congress continues to take corrective steps so that greater assistance
reaches those most in need. In demanding audit trails, for such huge sums of
money, conservatives are frequently challenged as not being
compassionate.  

"We are pleased with Rep. Shaw and fellow Republicans who search for
accountability and credibility coupled to the demand for increased HIV/AIDS
funding" noted Jack Majeske,  President of the Broward Log Cabin Club.
"Let's face reality. Demanding accountability so that people in need of help
are helped is the essence of progressive financial management while, the
opposite, mismanagement, is cruel and depriving," Majeske further noted.
