Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 17:38:57 -0500 (EST) From: A Jay Eddy Subject: Political Fundamentalist Right Wars on Log Cabin FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 14, 1999 Contact: Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida P.O. Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 (954) LCR-1995 FUNDAMENTALIST F.R.C. DEFIES GOLDEN RULE, WANTS LOG CABIN SILENCED The politically active evangelical fundamentalist leaders of the D.C. based Family Research Council (FRC) have targeted Log Cabin as extremists. Gary Bauer, in his driving desire to capture the GOP Presidential primaries, has seemingly begun targeting egalitarians as expendable for even daring to offer Log Cabin Republicans a place at the GOP table of inclusion. Bauer and other politically active fundamentalists have long had an agenda of "Reclaiming America for Christ" at the expense of non-heterosexuals and their supporters. By attacking Log Cabin, they merely expose themselves for what they are: opportunists who see an incendiary "cash cow" to fuel the fires of their subliminal and openly intolerant agenda. Religious institutions who have accepted gay women and men into their organizations as equals are allegedly being attacked as enemies of the family and enemies of God. Bauer and his clan have apparently expanded their zealot agenda into the political arena demanding that the GOP deny gay and gay-friendly Republicans their rightful heritage in the Party of Lincoln. "As a life-long-sustaining Republican, long before Bauer and born again converted Dixiecrats joined the GOP, the 'Party of Lincoln' was the beacon of hope, freedom and inclusion for those beaten back by segregation and discrimination. Seemingly these demonizers would now have you believe otherwise," noted Andy Eddy, BLCCF Director of Community Relations and Outreach. Jack Majeske, BLCCF President expressed deep concern over these attacks against LCR saying, "I've come from a tradition of tolerance, born in a state that demanded equality over inequality and now I am deeply troubled that the Southern Fundamentalist strategy would rise again to steer us back to the days when men were 'servants unto their masters' and traded as property not treated as children of God." We have joined our national LCR leadership in support of Rep. Tom Davis. We ask all those who believe in the American dream and the right to "life, liberty, justice and the pursuit of happiness" to stand up and be counted. We ask our friends to challenge these religious supremacists by writing fair-minded GOP leaders today saying, "NO... NEVER AGAIN!" To voice your concern as egalitarians write Jim Nicholson, Chairman of the Republican Nat'l Committee FAX (202) 863-8820 or e-mail him at info@rnc.org. To voice your concern over the NRCC'S lending legitimacy to anti-gay fundamentalists who oppose the GOP's inclusive "Big Tent" write The Honorable Tom Davis, Chair, Republican National Congressional Committee at 320 First Street, SE, Washington, DC 20002 Phone (202) 479-7000. Keep the "ALL" in Republicanism as Abraham Lincoln so decreed.
