Log Cabin E-BB (954) LCR-1995 ----------- Forwarded Message -------- For Immediate Release December 11, 1999 Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida P.O. Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 (954) LCR-1995 MCCAIN DRAWS ON DIVERSITY IN FT. LAUDERDALE & SO.FLA Friday, December 10th, South Florida. Supporters, acquain- tances, friends and well wishers of Sen. John McCain enjoyed the company of the presidential candidate at a private, $1,000 a plate, breakfast held at the prominent Tower Club in the heart of Ft.Lauderdale. Although no official endorsements have been made, Log Cabin Lincoln Club members in Palm Beach, Miami and Pensacola also joined in on the scheduled list of activities in those respective location where people are anxious to learn more about the candidate who also wants to learn more about them. Jack Majeske, President of the Broward Log Cabin Club (BLCCF) noted that "A diverse audience of about 60 women and men were charmed by the candidate's candid humor coupled to his advice regarding some serious challenges for our grass-roots community." Andy Eddy, BLCCF Director for Community Relations and Outreach, suggested that, "McCain focused on the reality of being a reach- able communicator and not simply a political enabler of ventures that often don't touch the soul of the electorate nor the pulse of every-day issues that burn in the hearts the people." Majeske and Eddy shared a table with Sen. McCain and other guests during a very delightful breakfast where some locally visible Democrats joined the ranks of well wishers. According to Mark Ferrara, BLCCF Executive Vice President, "The Senator was wise in visiting South Florida because, although Broward is considered a Democratic strong hold, it carries the power of a swing-vote constituency that helped elect our great governor, Jeb Bush." Some suggest that where South Florida goes so does the State but "it's prudent to be underestimated than over," claims Ferrara. The Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida was founded in 1989 and became a chartered members of the Log Cabin Federation in 1991. On April 21, 1999 the club received a State Charter from the Florida Republican Party, one of the first given to any Log Cabin Club in the "old south." Members of the club have met a number of local, state and national political leaders as well as the State Party Chair and National GOP Chairmen, Jim Nicholson.
