Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 TAFEL HITS EXTREMISTS -BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT- ON EXCLUSION Sunday January 18, 1998, Miami, Florida. Richard Tafel, National Director for Log Cabin Republicans, address a LesBiGay audience on issues relative to involvement, AIDS activism and people who exclude simply because of difference. He told guests at the Cosmopolitan Community Center brunch that we, as non-heterosexuals, often demonize republicans and religious groups, regardless of their standing on equality. That tunnel vision correlates to the skewed rhetoric of the far right when they demonize gay and gay-friendly politicians, corporate America and community groups for affording across-the-board inclusion. Tafel was questioned about his position on Jeb Bush. He replied that such consideration was a local matter and the Florida Log Cabin Leadership is not committed. According to a number of guests the event was quite stimulating and offered greater insight into the workings of the LCR. "There is no way for us to create meaningful change without positive and inclusive involvement. Dialogue affords inclusion and inclusion affords us a place at the decision table," commented Jack Majeski, Vice President of Broward Log Cabin Republicans. He further noted that "Tafel demonstrated to us today that the power of the grass roots, when inclusive, is awesome and holds the single most important key to our future."
