Connie Mack Honorable Congressman E.Clay Shaw RE: The Honorable Gov. William Weld vs Chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Honorable Gentlemen: We want to address our concerns to you as leaders of this nation as well as members of the Party of Lincoln. Allegedly, your good office is in question when apparent silence affords a Senator from the fine state of North Carolina a contemptible shield which, in the eyes of many Americans, defies progress and equitable judgement relative to the appointment of proven statesman and outstanding Governor from the great State of Massachusetts. The Honorable William Weld should be appointed to the ambassador post of his and the President's choosing. Governor Weld won election in a State overwhelmingly Democratic. He is the epitome of what the Republican Party should be gravitating towards if we want to continue to be the Majority party in this Country. Senator Helms thinks he has the grasp of what the republicans should stand for; however, he is out of step with reality. The Party must embrace the position of Abraham Lincoln which is an inclusive ethic with room for more than one man's opinion. The members and friends of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida implore you, as leaders of the Republican Party and astute representatives, to move this issue forward showing that an inclusive GOP shall not cater to the antediluvian opinions of one individual. Let's unite for the common good. Join with others who seek the valued and proven leadership found in Governor William Weld. We are confident that you will do your duty and put an end to this derisive charade, and puerile abuse of power. Respectfully, Mof Warren, President Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida cc. Sen. Jesse Helms, Chair Sen. Gordon Smith Sen. Richard Lugar Sen. Craig Thomas Sen. Paul Coverdale Sen. John Ashcroft Sen. Chuck Hagel Sen. Rod Grams Sen. Bill Frist Sen. Sam Brownback
