Date: Tue, 19 Mar 1996 05:16:11 -0500 (EST) From: A Jay Eddy Subject: Informaitonal Release (fwd) March 17, 1996 Immediate Release Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida Progressive "Lincoln-Free Republicans" P.O. Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 (305) 563-3626 FLORIDA ANTI-DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP BILL SET BACK Florida House Bill 2369, which would create a statute that would prevent the recognition and/or deny licenses for same-sex marriage/domestic partnership in the state, did not have a co- sponsor at filing date and was apparently withdrawn according to Denis Delia of Gay United to Attack Repression and Discrimination (GUARD). In a communique from Florida State Rep. Ann MacKenzie's (D) office, Florida Log Cabin Board members were informed that the bill, sponsored by a Southern Baptist activist, Florida State Rep. Buddy Johnson (R) of Plant City, had died. Likewise, according to Florida State Senator Jim Scott's (R) office, there was no companion legislation being sponsored in the Senate as of this date. Mof Warren, President of Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida, noted " that although this was a temporary set-back for the far right evangelical fundamentalists it should not be taken lightly by the community and our supporters. It is imperative that we not only keep up our vigilance on the issue of "domestic partnerships" but maintain good working relationships so that we are not denied equality of access to our rights as tax paying and law abiding citizens of this great state."
