Date: Fri, 5 Apr 1996 02:09:57 -0500 (EST) From: A Jay Eddy Subject: Press Release (fwd) April 2, 1996 - Press Release Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida P.O. Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 (305) 563-3626 SO.FLORIDA ANTI-GAY REPUBLICAN ACTIVIST LOSES BY ONE VOTE For a number of years Ms. French and Ms. Hanson have been recognized as Republican activists within the Broward County Executive Committee (REC) who have visibly and vocally denounced the involvement of gay women and men under the "big tent" theory because of sexual orientation. They and their far right evangel- ical fundamental political activists have not tried to reach out to gay conservative Republicans. They have not attempted to understand nor recognize a need for cooperation, compassion and inclusion because they have judged emotionally, without the faith and inspiration of a "Golden Rule." They have been known to participate in bearing false witness in fear because they have not utilized the tools of communication but the tools of misrepresentation indicative of Dr. Paul Cameron. Cameron was expelled from the American Psychological Association for employing unsound methodologies. He was likewise cited by the Nebraska Psychological Association, The American Sociological Association, the Midwest Sociological Society and a U.S. District Court Judge (Judge Jerry Buchmeyer) for misrepresentation. Although Log Cabin Broward Republicans and their supporters=20 sympathize with Ms. French and her dedication to the Republican Party we found it impossible to offer her any support in her bid for election to public office. Her offensive nature and the offensive nature of some of her supporters forced us to work for a defeat at the polls. That effort apparently paid off as Ms. French lost by one vote even after several recounts. We hope that this minor Republican set-back in a town dominated by a more tolerant Democratic leadership sends a vivid =D9=AE/warning signal to those who wish to deny gay women and men=20 access to their party and faith in a working political democracy. We pray that some may come to understand that opening the door to communication, inclusion and cooperation leads to a winning team. Many in the Democratic Party have already learned this lesson and it is time for those who have turned conservative clubs into exclusive clubs to air out their party room and let in the light. We will not go away, will not give up our party and faith any longer and we will not permit the distortions of a skewed and misrepresentative video the "Gay Agenda" to cloud the who and what we are as a diverse and concerned minority community of honest and caring American citizens. We have asked to be allowed to tell our story. We have been denied while the story of the "Gay Agenda" and Cameron/Dobson have permeated the local party corridors. That too will change for "We are All God's Children" and shall enjoy the Freedoms and Rights we deserve under our great Constitution and the freedom party espoused by Lincoln. ***************************************************************** April 2, 1996 TO: Congressional Representatives Bilbray-CA Frelinghauysen-NJ Lazio-NY Boehlert-NY Gilman-NY Leach-IA=20 Blute-MA Gunderson-WI Loughlin-TX Campbell-CA Greenwood-PA Morella-MD Davis-VA Houghton-NY Molinari-NY Ehlers-MI Hobson-OH McCrery-LA Ensign-NV Horn-CA Riggs-CA Flanagan-IL Johnson-CT Shays-CT =20 Fox-PA Klug-WI Torkildsen-MA Foley-FL Kolbe-AZ White-WA = =20 FR: Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida RE: Repeal of Bill - Automatic Discharge of HIV+ Servicemembers Dear Honorable Representatives: The Members and Friends of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida and its "s= now bird" associates wish to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone o= f you for your outreach, compassion and understanding in tackling HR-2959. Perhaps we are learning from the pain and suffering of "don't ask - don't tell" because of so many cases which have misinterpreted the intentions of = our elected officials. Not even the harshest critic of the gay community dreame= d about the long-term consequences or abusive intolerance and suffering yet endured by those confined and condemned because of their sexual orientation= . We applaud you for your understanding and insight. We applaud you for softening such pain by attempting to lift the sting of HIV from those who a= re still able, willing and competent to serve a nation they love and honor. There are inspiring messages in life and they are encapsulated in the basic concept of living with the lesson of the "Golden Rule" and the meaningfulne= ss of the "Beatitudes" regardless of individual beliefs and/or persuasions. Wh= en we address each and every human being with such compassion and understandin= g we bridge the gap of indifference, misunderstanding and intolerance. We set the stage to a rising curtain that can give birth to creative solutions not deadlock and indifference.
