Date: Mon, 19 Feb 1996 17:57:06 -0500 (EST) From: A Jay Eddy Subject: Press Informational Release (fwd) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BROWARD LOG CABIN CLUB OF FLORIDA "Lincoln- Free Republicans" (954) 563-3626 P.O. Box 1281, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33302 February 19, 1996 CATON OF TAMPA AFA CHALLENGES MIAMI ELECTION David Caton of Tampa and ally Rolf Stores of Dade's American Family Association are extreme right politically active evangelical fundamentalist that readily stigmatize qualified political candidates solely because of their sexual orientation, not their credible qualifications nor demonstrated ability in public and private service to the community. Caton who runs his political "religious right" machine out of Tampa recently suggested that South Miami Mayor, Tom Cunningham a gay man, would be consumed by his personal interests and not the at-large interest of the community. He based his conclusions on the fact that Cunningham ran as an openly gay politician and yet some in the AFA claim Cunningham really didn't tell the "voters enough about his sexual orientation." Here again 57 percent of the fair minded intelligent South Miami voters were right and the American Family Association's politically active fundamentalists were wrong in fallaciously patronizing the demonic image mongering. Log Cabin Republicans are satisfied that the community voted on the individual's performance, professional and accountable record, not the distorted gossip of those bearing "false witness" founded on an exaggerated agenda that is proving less than cre dible day by day. ajayeddy@bcfreenet.seflin.lib.fl.us
