Jeb Bush addressed an overflow crowd of Republicans, guests, and members of the press and subsequently covered a number of national and local issues of importance. He noted that he was personally not in favor of the California immigration initiative which targets innocent men, women and children and believes that more must be done to secure our boarders and enforce current laws and policies of record. He applauded Newt Gingrich on the mammoth achievements of the 104th Congress and its unheard of swift action in meeting the pledge made to the American people. Members of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida questioned Mr. Bush on his current position on "gays" in that sources show that he received "40% of the gay vote" in the Florida governor's race. Mr. Bush felt that the issue receive too much out of context coverage and that neither he, his mom and/or dad discriminate against gays. Activists associated with the American Family Association and the Christian Coalition privately expressed concerns over the current Broward initiative on special rights for gays. Charlie Lopiccolo, when questioned about the issue, noted that most of these individuals are confused about "equality of right for all" and the Rev. Pat Robinson's and Dr. Paul Cameron's camouflaged rhetoric of alleged "special rights for gays." Andy Eddy, LCF regional director, was quoted as saying "There is only one issue in this matter and that is 'equality of rights for all.' in safeguarding this cherished principle Americans will remain true to freedom from religious persecution as constitutionally guaranteed through separation of church and state and the protected rights of individuals. Freedom of religion as prescribed by a church through state cannot be camouflaged in facaded rhetoric as is the case of the 700 Club's marketing of the misleading video 'The Gay Agenda'. Log Cabin Clubs of Florida align themselves with the position recently taken by Herbert Valentine, chair of the interfaith alliance, Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg of the World Jewish Congress, Catholic bishop Francis Murphy of Baltimore, and Joan Campbell of the National Council Of Churches, which outlines the problematic tactics of the Coalition."
