He must now run in a countywide election to retain his seat on the bench. After graduating cum laude from Duke University, Sebastian received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law. As an attorney with the Chicago office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1979 through 1995, he was in charge of litigating major pollution cases in the Midwest. During those years, Sebastian won high praise and numerous awards including a U.S. Government Distinguished Service Award. Sebastian serves on the Illinois Bar and is admitted to the Supreme Courts of Illinois and Kansas, the U.S. Court of Appeals and two U.S. District Courts. He does pro bono work for the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago and the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic. Sebastian also serves on the board of directors of the Step-penwolf Theater Company. One individual who can testify to Judge Patti's commitment to helping others is the man Sebastian recently saved from drowning in Lake Michigan.
