VICTORY FUND RECOMMENDED CANDIDATE PROFILE Jim Moeller for Vancouver (WA) City Council A Vancouver resident for 37 years, chemical dependency counselor Jim Moeller is running in the non-partisan, citywide race for a seat on the city council. His political work started when he was a Boy Scout and volunteered for local campaigns to earn his Citizenship Merit Badge. In addition to his work as co-chair of the Southwest Washington Fairness Coalition, Jim has also served as a precinct committee person and a delegate to the State Democratic Convention. Jim has extensive ties in the community and serves as vice-chair of the Bagley Downs Neighborhood Association, as a board member of the Clark College Advisory Committee for Chemical Dependency Curriculum, as vice-president of the Vancouver Men's Chorus, and as a coordinator of the St. Christopher House Memorial Gardens, a local AIDS hospice. Jim has six primary opponents, one of whom is anti-gay extremist Ken Whitecotton. Whitecotton was the communications director for the Washington Traditional Values PAC (co-sponsors of last year's statewide anti-gay ballot initiative). According to The Columbian, "Whitecotton said he became interested in city government while testifying against a Vancouver ordinance to protect homosexual employees from discrimination. W hitecotton promised to run for the Council to fight what he described as a pro-homosexual stance on the board."
