Thank you. Position Description of Executive Director I. FUNCTION 1. Serve as Executive Officer of the Organization, reporting to the Board of Directors, accepting responsibility for the success or failure of the enterprise. 2. With the Co-Chairs of the Board, enable the Board of Directors to fulfill its governance function, and facilitate the optimum interaction between management and the Board of Directors. 3. Give direction to the formulation and leadership to the achievement of the Organization's philosophy, mission, and strategy, and to its annual objectives and goals. II. RESPONSIBILITIES Vis a vis the Board of Directors 1. With the Co-chairs of the Board, develop agendas for meeting, so that the Board can fulfill all its responsibilities effectively. Develop an annual calendar to cover all crucial issues in a timely fashion. 2. See that the Board and the Director are kept fully informed on the condition of the Organization on all important factors influencing it. 3. Get the best thinking and involvement of each Board member. Stimulate each one to give his/her best. 4. Work with the Co-chairs to make the committee structure of the Board function effectively. 5. With the Co-chairs, recommend the composition of the Board and its committees. 6. Be responsible to and report to the Board of Directors. As Executive Director 1. Be responsible for the Organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. 2. Make certain that the Organization's philosophy and mission statements are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization. 3. Assure that the Organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress. 4. Make certain that the flow of funds permits the Organization to make steady progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect the present needs and future potential. 5. See that there is an effective management team, with provisions for succession. 6. Ensure the development and implementation of personnel training and development plans and programs which will provide the human resources necessary for the achievement of the Organization's mission. 7. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps and motivates top quality people - both professional and volunteer. 8. Administer all major policies of the Organization. 9. Serve as the spokesperson for the Organization, and thereby see that the Organization is properly presented to its various publics. III. DUTIES The Executive Director will be responsible for supervising or performing the following duties and activities. To accomplish these goals, the ED will work with Board members, volunteers, staff and members to utilize their time, talent, energy and knowledge of the organization. A. Administration/Management o The ED will oversee and coordinate all aspects of office management, budget development and monitoring, staff supervision and program development. B. Development o The ED will supervise the submission of grants on behalf of GLAAD/SFBA. This may include research, writing, application coordination, budget preparation, editing the work of other grant writers and developing potential new grant sources. o The ED is responsible for maintaining donor relationships including, membership development, donor acknowledgment, database management, donor research, and donor solicitations. o The ED is responsible for coordinating the organization's other fundraising activities including the preparation of an annual fundraising plan, direct mail solicitations, special events, and business/corporate contributions. C. Public Relations o The ED will implement the Board's policy decisions and maintain good working relationships with individuals and organizations in the community. o The ED will serve as press director for the organization. As such, he or she will speak on behalf of the organization, locate other Board members and organizational spokespersons to handle press calls, and refer media to other individuals and community organizations when appropriate. o The ED will generate positive publicity about GLAAD/SFBA, and will represent the organization at community events, forums, and meetings as appropriate. D. Board of Directors o The ED will attend meetings of the Board of Directors, and other Board committee meetings as appropriate. o The ED will serve as liaison between Board and staff o The ED will prepare monthly program reports and financial reports for the board.
