The report, which was produced and directed by Gail Pellett and written by Pellett and Moyers, focused specifically on Colorado Springs, where many organizations in the Religious Reich are headquartered. To his credit, Moyers interviewed a handful of lesbian and gay Colorado citizens. However, Moyers gave a wider range of fundamentalists considerable time to explain their heterosupremacist views, which they presented with all the polish that expensive market testing and forensic training can provide. Although Moyers gently challenged the speakers to justify some of their points, he did not refute their many distortions, misleading statements, and outright lies. In fact, he offered no evaluation of the two "sides" whatsoever. Viewers who don't know better may have believed the misinformation presented in this program, and anti-gay viewers must have felt vindicated and affirmed in their beliefs. Though Moyers did not know it, many of his featured bigots quoted directly from "Medical Consequences of What Homosexuals Do," a widely-distributed and outrageously-deceptive pamphlet produced by Paul Cameron (a quack "psychologist" who has lied to several U.S. courts and who also has been roundly condemned by the American Psychological Association, American Sociological Association, and other professional associations). among other "facts," the pamphlet states: "The rectum was not designed to accommodate the fist (or little gerbils), and those who do so can find themselves consigned to diapers for life." Unfortunately, Moyer's never got around to taking a close look at that pamphlet or other key sources of fundamentalist misinformation. A new music video by Mitsou, "Everybody Say Love," features two men in military uniforms holding hands and hugging, two naked men in erotic wrestling positions, and the star Mitsou being embraced by two attractive, kissing women. The song has been released as a single in the U.S., so request it at your local music store or dance club. Also, drop a line to MTV and ask the network to put the video into heavy rotation. New Survey of "Ex-Gays" A recent issue of The Standard (a newsletter published by Exodus International, the infamous ministry for "ex-gays") calls upon readers to participate in a survey "comparing individuals comfortable with their homosexuality to those seeking to change their orientation." Obviously, Exodus International wants to ensure that any survey results are skewed to reflect a deeply homophobic bias; this is a strategy used by many "ministries" that recruit people into an unhealthy heterosexual lifestyle. The dubious survey is being conducted by a graduate student and a professor at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego. To share your thoughts with the researchers call 619-221-2574, or write to "Pace Maker," Reeann Hyde, Point Loma Nazarene College, 3900 Lomaland Dr., San Diego, CA 92106. Sony's Out The Sony Corporation of America will be the next major advertiser to buy space in Out magazine (Apple recently bought a two-page spread to promote the company's Powerbook computer). Sony will begin advertising in the Dec./Jan. issue of Out. As always, the homophobes are expected to swamp Sony with postcards warning the company about the evils of supporting "the gay agenda." Radio Activity This month, three Bay area radio stations featured the queer sounds of Romanovsky & Phillips. On November 10, Alex Bennett (Live 105) hosted Romanovsky & Phillips on his morning show, during which the performers sang two songs ("When Heterosexism Strikes" and "Queers in the Closet"). Romanovsky & Phillips next appeared November 16 on KSFO. Host Peter B. Collins played a few of their songs and talked with the duo about their experiences as "out performers." Finally, Wild 107's Mancow hosted Romanovsky & Phillips during his morning show on November 17. This time, the singers performed their version of the Army's propaganda theme song, "Be All That You Can Be."
