Williams is currently an editorial columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where he has littered the paper with numerous anti- gay/lesbian diatribes. Williams' appointment comes as a surprise as WATL is owned by the usually progressive Fox network. "I don't think we'll get MTV news out of a guy who wears a bow tie," said WATL General Manager Gene McHugh. "We value Dick for his maturity." Write WATL and Fox and let them know that there is nothing "mature" about bigotry. Granted, Mr. Williams' resume does read well, having been the news director at Atlanta's Channel 11, and several other stations. However, these qualifications will likely do little in insuring fair and accurate coverage of the news. There have reportedly been more letters and calls to ACOG and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) concerning this issue than any other. If ACOG has not made a decision let them know how upset you are that the Olympics would be held in Cobb County where anti-gay/lesbian bigotry is government sanctioned. If ACOG does move the event out of Cobb write to praise the decision - and if they don't, let them know how you'll protest in '96.
