SPONSORS UNDER ATTACK The American Family Association's latest effort to drive off the air television programming it doesn't like--which includes positive gay and lesbian characters--is an appeal to its members to write the 11 sponsors the AFA says are most responsible for "filth" on television. In the fundraising letter that accompanies this piece, the AFA's Donald Wildmon claims that "even though the networks aired as much filth [in the fall] as they did last Spring, they did not make as much money from the filth. In fact, the Los Angeles Times recently reported that ABC and NBC lost a least $1 million on two programs which promoted homosexuality--'thirtysomething' and 'Lifestories.'" Wildmon also claims, contrary to all independent studies, that "most advertisers respect the AFA because we can and will execute a successful boycott." We urge our readers to help derail the efforts of these anti-gay hate mongerers to intimidate sponsors. Write the following AFA targets to let them know you appreciate their past support of programming that includes positive gay and lesbian characters, and encourage them to sponsor more such programming in the future. The AFA targets, in "filth" rank order, are: 1. American Honda Company - Pres. Yoshihide Munekuni, 100 West Alondra, Gardena, CA 90248, Phone (213) 327-8280. 2. S.C. Johnson & Sons, Inc.
