A black-tie gala event will be held on Sunday, March 24th at the World Trade Center in Portland to benefit local sponsors the Equity Foundation and GLAAD. The tour will make stops in St. Louis, MO; Minneapolis, MN; Boston, MA: Philadelphia, PA; Detroit, MI; Columbus, OH; Washington, DC; Charlotte, NC; and Atlanta, GA. The tour is co-sponsored by GLAAD, The Advocate, and Joseph E. Seagram & Sons. CYBER COFFEE TALK: Queer CyberCenter, a computer-equipped space with free public access to the Internet, opens its doors on March 26th at 9:30am at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center. A press conference is scheduled that day at 10am. The project brings free Internet access to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgendered individuals, and non-gay allies who have not yet experienced or have had limited experience with the Internet or computers. The project is sponsored by the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center, Digital Queers/Los Angeles, Digital Queers, General Internet, and the University of Southern California. TEE TIME AT DINAH SHORE: An Uncommon Legacy Foundation will honor LPGA golfer Muffin Spencer-Devlin and GLAAD at a reception in Palm Springs on March 30th. Ms. Spencer-Devlin was chosen for her dedication to the sport of golf and for her recent decision to be the first "out" lesbian in the history of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. GLAAD will be recognized for its work leading to the eventual dismissal of CBS sportscaster Ben Wright. Legacy will also present the Los Angeles Chapter of L.I.F.T. GLAAD SADDENED BY WATKINS DEATH: GLAAD is saddened by the death of Perry J. Watkins, the first openly gay man to challenge the ban against gays in the military. Watkins died of complications due to AIDS on Sunday, March 17. He was retired with full honors from the military after fighting an initial discharge in 1982. GLAAD assisted in the production of Sis: The Perry Watkins Story , a 1994 documentary made about his life, and a script for a feature film based on his life has been optioned by a production company in Hollywood.
