On Saturday, March 16th, at 9am ILGO will attempt to march up Fifth Avenue from 42nd Street. From 11am until the end of the parade, 32 affinity groups of lesbians, gay men, and heterosexual supporters will line the parade route. For more information contact Sal Cecere or Lisa Fane (ILGO) at pager (917) 429-5003. HATE CRIMES ACT IGNORES THE TRANSGENDERED: The U.S. Senate has scheduled a hearing on the reauthorization of the Hate Crimes Statistics Act (HCSA) for March 19th. The Act, which tracks hate crimes against a number of different populations, does not currently track hate crimes against transpeople. GenderPAC, a recently-formed national gender-activist group, has actively supported HCSA's reauthorization and tracking of hate crimes against transpeople. "Given the high level of violence and harassment directed against the transgendered, and the lack of any formal data collection effort, the inclusion of transpeople in future versions of HCSA is critical," said Dana Priesing, an attorney for GenderPAC.
