At its monthly meeting on May 2, 1996, the Board of Directors of GLAAD/SFBA voted to merge the agency, its programs and resources with the national organization in order to coordinate resources and expertise with other activists around the country, increase the influence and reach of its activist work, and expand programming. "Members and volunteers will continue to produce the quality media activism which has become the agency's trademark," said GLAAD/SFBA Board member and Project Coordinator Mike Spanola. "Strong projects will continue, and new opportunities and resources to expand our programming will become available as the merger its completed and local program activists are connected with similar projects nationwide." The members and volunteers who make possible GLAAD/SFBA's high level of service will be crucial to the projects and operations of the new Media Center -- grassroots activism remains the core of GLAAD's success. As part of the national organization, GLAAD/SFBA anticipates being better able to strive for fair, accurate and diverse images of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. The GLAAD Media Center will be located at the site of the former GLAAD/SFBA office, at 1360 Mission, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94103, (415) 861-2244.
