Do you want to help do something about it? Become a member of GLAAD's Monitor & Response team! The increasing number of films, articles, programs and softwares affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community means that we need people across the country to help us aggressively and effectively monitor the media. The Monitor & Response (M&R) teams work hand-in-hand with GLAAD's staff to respond to important items in the media. Currently, GLAAD holds Monitor & Response Committee meetings in six cities across the country: ATLANTA, GA The Atlanta Team meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at GLAAD's Atlanta Media Resource Center, located at 17th and Peachtree Street, NE. It is still in its formative stages and the majority of its work is done online. The Atlanta team concentrates primarily on the news media in the southern region of the U.S. and on news media issues that pertain to GLAAD's Cultural Interest Media (CIM) Project. A separate CIM Team is also in development, which will function primarily online. Its goal will be to monitor how the media represents lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of color -- in both the mainstream press and in some culturally-specific media outlets. The Kansas City team concentrates primarily on monitoring religious media, as well as news media in the Midwestern region of the U.S.. A separate religious M&R is in its formative stages, and will function primarily online, with its goal the monitoring of religious reporting in mainstream news outlets, as well as in a number of religious journals. The committee also meets every first and third Wednesday of every month at the GLAAD offices.
