The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor individuals and projects in news and entertainment media for their balanced and accurate representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Winners will be announced at the GLAAD Media Awards, which will take place in four ceremonies to be held in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and San Francisco. The Media Awards will be held on April 2, 2000 in New York City; on April 15 in Los Angeles; on May 13 in Washington D.C.; and on June 3 in San Francisco. Nominations for work originating in 1999 may be submitted in the following categories: film, television, music, theater, comics, magazine, newspaper, advertising, and interactive media. Submissions must have been published, released or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 1999. Past GLAAD Media Award winners include: Gods and Monsters, High Art and In & Out; Out of the Past and It's Elementary; Will & Grace, Ellen and Chicago Hope; newspaper columnists Frank Rich and Deb Price; Dockers (Levi-Strauss); The Casper Star-Tribune and Advertising Age; The Last Session and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. Past special honorees include Whoopi Goldberg, RuPaul, Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher, Armistead Maupin, k.d.lang, Cristina Saralegui, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Barbara Walters and Pedro Zamora. Criteria for Evaluating Entries GLAAD only considers entries that deal with issues or storylines that relate directly to our community or that contain characters who are identified clearly as members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender communities. Criteria include: 1) the overall quality of the project; 2) the prominence of the LGBT content; 3) the fairness, accuracy and inclusiveness of the LGBT content in the project; 4) the boldness and originality of the LGBT content. Types of Entries Considered Advertising, comics, film, interactive media, magazines, music, newspapers, television, theater, and visual & performing arts. Other forms of expression may be evaluated and nominated if deemed of exceptional merit.
