It should be known that the person quoted is no longer associated with GLAAD, and that they are not empowered to act as a spokesperson for the organization. GLAAD has not yet viewed the film in question, and does not make comment on any media unless it has been reviewed by the organization. When a film, television show, news item or other media representation is deemed defamatory to the lesbian, gay, bisexuals and transgender community, GLAAD works proactively with the entertainment industry to help foster fair, accurate and inclusive images in their work. GLAAD is not in the business of <> anything. Regarding the statement's reference to Mel Gibson, Mr. Gibson has met with our organization, and took part in a seminar for up and coming lesbian and gay filmmakers that was sponsored by GLAAD. We count Mel Gibson among the friends of our organization. GLAAD is currently in contact with representatives from Universal regarding the film and will make an official statement about the film once it has been viewed by a current GLAAD staff member. We regret any misunderstandings that might have resulted from this.
